The Apollo celebrates Kwanzaa with the renowned and energetic New York-based dance company, Abdel Salam’s Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. It is an evening of joyful dance and music that honors the principles of Kwanzaa – family, community and culture. Hosted by WBLS personality Imhotep Gary Byrd.

In 1966, Kwanzaa, a weeklong holiday celebration of African-American culture and community, was initiated. Guided by seven principles that focus on family and prosperity through unity, Kwanzaa is a celebrated community tradition. The celebration of Kwanzaa is observed throughout much of the US and typically begins on December 26th, ending on the first of January. The Apollo annually celebrates this holiday tradition through dance, music, and song. The Apollo’s Kwanzaa program is observed on one day of the Kwanzaa holiday.
