We, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., are saddened by the news of the recent shooting at Florida State University. Our prayers go out to the individuals who were injured and their families. We are also praying for the family of the person identified by law enforcement as the shooter, Myron May, a member of our organization.

Over the last several months we have taken a leadership role in the discussion centered around gun violence. We have adopted a 10 point platform, which includes an anti-gun violence initiative and a health partnership with the March of Dimes. We debuted our “Rise and Thunder” initiative for youth and young adult mentoring during the 2014 Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference, and will support Congressional leaders’ efforts for a National Criminal Background Check System and the repeal of the “Gun Show Loophole” for firearms purchases. In addition, Phi Beta Sigma is focused on promoting healthy living. Our goal is to encourage more men to take care of their physical and mental health and
