Oakland, California— Golden Buffalo Publications, on behalf of the National Coalition of Black Veteran Organizations (NCBVO), proudly announces the release of a special commemorative tabloid newspaper titled “Reveille.” The publication chronicles more than four decades of advocacy dedicated to securing the promotion of the legendary Buffalo Soldier, educator, diplomat, and military leader Charles Young to the posthumous rank of Brigadier General in the United States Army.

The centerpiece of this thirty-six-page special edition is a feature article titled “The Advocacy,” written by Charles Blatcher, III, principal advocate and longtime leader of the national campaign that ultimately resulted in the historic posthumous promotion of Charles Young. The article documents the sustained efforts of veterans, historians, civic leaders, elected officials, and community organizations that worked tirelessly to achieve long-overdue recognition for one of America’s most distinguished military figures.

According to Blatcher, “The significance of this publication is that it documents the advocacy and salutes the many individuals and organizations whose dedication helped preserve and advance the story of Charles Young and contributed to the broader writings of Black military history.”

The publication also features “The Improbable Ambassadors,” an insightful article authored by the late Dr. Michael J. Clark, former Chief Historian of the National Coalition of Black Veteran Organizations. Dr. Clark’s work highlights the remarkable diplomatic and military achievements of Charles Young and other African American leaders whose contributions helped shape American history.

In addition to its historical features, Reveille showcases profiles of significant Black history sites and institutions located along the 170-mile Brigadier General Charles Young Historical Memorial Corridor in Kentucky and Ohio. These locations preserve and interpret the legacy of African American military service, education, civic leadership, and community achievement.

The publication is intended to serve as an enduring educational and tourism resource, promoting awareness of the Charles Young legacy while encouraging visitation to the historical sites located throughout the Memorial Corridor.

The National Coalition of Black Veteran Organizations hopes that Reveille will inspire future generations to learn about the life and achievements of Brigadier General Charles Young and the advocates who helped secure the recognition he deserved.

Copies of Reveille are available free at history locations along the Corridor and the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville while supplies last. Copies are also available by mail order. To help defray the cost of handling, packaging, and postage, a nominal mailing fee of ten dollars is requested for individual orders.
