“Building Confidence”

From that very first step a two­year­old makes into the toddler
classroom at the preschool to the last step taken by our sixth
grade students down the aisle at graduation, independence and
confidence are nurtured, encouraged and developed.

At the preschool, we celebrate each backpack that gets hung
up, each undone button that is buttoned autonomously, each
lunchbox that is opened independently, and each new center or
skill that is tried. Children begin to give voice to their emotions
when they express joy in seeing their friends at the beginning of
the day, articulate their likes and dislikes as they try different
kinds of apples, or even communicate a love of learning as they
dance during music or design paper pig or sheep masks during
the Farm Unit in the Fall.

Our preschool students are empowered to make choices and to
begin to think critically, and begin to learn how to present or
perform in public, growing in confidence as they take the stage,
singing as a class at the Christmas concert, or expressing what
he or she is thankful for during our Thanksgiving Chapel, or
even for some, asking a question during morning circle.
